One of Fender's original '50s guitar colours, Shell Pink is a relatively unusual colour choice and has never been produced in large numbers (although it is still offered on some of Fender's models to this day). As with many of its Fender custom colour counterparts during the beginning of the 1960s, Shell Pink was borrowed from the automotive industry, originally as a 1956 Desoto Duco paint and offered by Fender between 1960 and 1963, making it a very short production run.
There is little consistency with the use of a white undercoat on Fender's earlier finishes so bodies can either be provided with or without the white undercoat - both would be vintage-accurate. The first two photographs above demonstrate the finish with white undercoat whilst the last three demonstrate a recently completed customer guitar using one of these bodies.
Due to their relative uniqueness, original vintage Shell Pink Stratocasters are very highly sought after so we are very pleased to be able to offer either two-piece alder or swamp ash (the earliest originals were swamp ash whilst later pre-CBS were alder) clone vintage relic bodies in Shell Pink, with the correct contours and worm route, thin and accurate nitrocellulose finish, and reliced to your requirements.
