Along with two-tone sunburst, black was 'the' in-house Fender colour of the 1950s. Any music fan of that era will remember two or three guitarists and their Stratocasters vividly, Eric Clapton was one of these musicians that inspired and influenced an entire generation of guitarists and Stratocaster players.
Eric Clapton's famous "Blackie" was put together from the 'best parts' of three separate 1956 and 1957 Fender Stratocasters which means classic contour routing, a thin black nitrocellulose finish (without any undercoat) which wore and aged very quickly, and alder beneath it all.
As an iconic and extremely popular colour choice (most usually as Clapton or Gilmour guitar projects), we are able to offer this body in either two-piece Swamp Ash or Alder, with vintage-accurate shaping, contours and routing (including the all-important worm route), completed in nitrocellulose and then worn and aged to your requirements.
